First Flag Raising!
Today was our first flag raising of the school year and it was full of excitement! The principal who opened Don Brewer in 2002, Annetta Kornblum, graced us with her presence! All of us thanked her for putting so much time and love into the school to make it what it is today! She has been a principal in Duval County for 18 years and next month will be retiring from the school system. Mrs. Kornblum's picture will be hanging up in the front office and a plaque in the library to honor and acknowledge her for all of the wonderful years of leadership. Mrs. Kornblum and Mrs. Collins' even opened up the 2002 Time Capsule to find many memories from 12 years ago...items that were found included a huge cell phone, our school song, a lunch menu, favorite movies, and favorite books!
We also had our Reading Celebration to get the students and teachers excited about reaching their book goals this year. As a school, we must read a total of 33,000 books in order to meet our goal for the year. If we do, students will get to throw pies at Mrs. Collins', Mrs. White, and Mrs. Sheroff!!! I know we all want to see this...so let's READ, READ, READ! Some of us from the class dressed up for the Reading Celebration. The costumes tie in with our theme, "Learning Takes Us Places"!
